Hey hey Ladies! Back on the blog today with another post on meal planning and recipe organization. I really wanted to lock down a good system for meal planning in 2017. I’ve pretty well got my planning system set down, and now it’s time to organize those recipes. I can’t be the only one that had recipes stashed all over the place, can I? I decided to keep one binder, with all my recipes to make meal planning and cooking faster and simpler.
Gathering those Recipes:
I had a couple of binders of recipes before I decided to consolidate into one book. I’d encourage you to do the same. If you can narrow down your collection to what you actually will cook, meal planning and recipe organization will be a lot quicker and easier. Get yours here: Avery Durable View Binder, 3″ Slant Rings, 600-Sheet Capacity, DuraHinge, White (17042)
My Binder Setup:
I used simple, cheap page protectors to house my recipes. The page protectors allow me to flip through the book faster and when it’s time to cook, I pull the recipe out and it’s protected from the shit I’m bound to spill on it. I don’t know about you, but I make a hell of a mess every time I cook. The plastic can be wiped down and keeps my recipes clean.
I used these extra wide dividers from Avery to separate my recipes into simple categories. It’s important to get Extra Wide dividers, or else the tabs won’t stick out past the page protectors. I chose Starters, Weeknight Meals, Crock Pot, All Damn Day, and Party for my categories. When I sit down to meal plan, I know I’ll need one or two “weeknight meals” and one or two “crock pot” recipes, so it’s super easy to flip to that section and fill in my days. Color Coding for Recipe Type:
I used a simple color coding system to help me further narrow down my recipe categories depending on what type of eating I’m doing that week. I sometimes do a Whole30 for instance. I can easily see that orange is the color for Whole30, so when I meal planning, I’d go first to the crock pot section, and then look for recipes marked with an orange dot to locate those that are Whole30 compliant.
